Oh yea – the landscape is amazing in Peru. Originally being from a country that is covered two-thirds by the Alps, I love being surrounded by mountains, and the Valle Sagrada (Sacred Valley) in which Urubamba is located is enclosed by mountains. Although the mountains themselves are pretty much all over 4,000 meters tall, they are only around 1,000 meters taller than Urubamba (which itself is located at around 2,700 meters). Aaaanyway, here are some impressions of the landscape around here:
Urubamba itself, although it has less than 3,000 residents, is a very lively town. You can get pretty much anything you are looking for (if you look long enough), except apparently notebooks and tissues – they just don’t seem to sell them here. The infrastructure, just like around the town, is also not very advanced in “downtown” Urubamba, for example the main market road is a dirt road. You also have to watch out for random holes in the sidewalk when you are strolling through the streets.
Let me close this post with a couple pictures of a local Peruvian…
