My stay in North America is coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing left to do! So today I once again wandered through the streets of New York, visited tourist attractions, looked at some of the art that is hidden throughout the city – and was then treated to two very photogenic thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

The day started with a visit to the former US aircraft carrier “Entrepit” – which is now used as a museum. It’s exhibits include the well-known SR-71 Blackbird – the world’s fastest airplane, reaching over 3,300km\/h and incredible altitudes. You can also take a look inside the ship itself. We had to wait for nearly an hour to be able to enter, and although the temperature again reached nearly 40\u00b0C there wasn’t any shade provided to the people waiting. Anyway – it was a nice visit.<\/p>\n

Walking through the streets and using the subway in New York you will see quite a lot of (street)art – and today was no exception. Here are two examples of what I mean:<\/p>\n

It was clear to me since several days that today would be the greatest chance for thunderstorms to happen during my entire stay in the US – and so I was quite pissed to find out that I had just missed the first thunderstorms while in the subway, and was only able to see the back side of it. But I got\u00a0a couple good photos anyway – especially as a pileus started to form over one of the cloud towers.<\/p>\n

The next stop on the program for today was the “high line park”. The high line was a train line kind of similar to that still used in Chicago and the subway in parts of Berlin – so it was built on a bridge over the road and was used as public transport. Meanwhile the original high line has been closed, but the bridge has been re-used and is now a park; the high line park. It’s a really neat concept actually, and kind of like a green\u00a0oasis in the middle of the city.<\/p>\n

Well, the weather decided to be kind to me in the end anyway – although most other people weren’t very happy about it. Another severe thunderstorm formed to the west of NYC and moved right over us with a very nice shelf cloud at the leading edge. What a nice ending to the\u00a0day.<\/p>\n
